The app is described as an educational app in the app store. Children can develope their hand-eye coordination when they are looking for the noisy objects in the colourful pictures. During the game different sense perceptions are addressed (visual, auditiv and tactile) at the same time. In addition children can train their memory with the Look Look Memory Game. There are six scenes in which children can search for noisy things with Elmo. It becomes more and more difficult to find these objects with each scene. Under the rubric Help there is the category Parent Tips. Here parents can find suggestions on how to use the app together with their children and how the app can help children for example with learning new words or counting.
- School Types: Preschool
Special Needs Hintergrund
The app is not especially for children with special needs. Within the app there are no options that can be changed. Therefore you cannot adjust the app to the child’s needs.
Taregt Group and Age-AppropriatenessHintergrund
The structure of the app is very simple, so children can use it on their own without their parents’ help. As the symbols of the app are easy to understand and the instructions are read out, the app is especially appropriate for young children in preschool. The app might get quite boring after a short time for older children in school because you can „only“ search for different objects in a picture or play memory with six cards. This might not be challenging enough for them.
The app addresses those children knowing and loving Sesame Street. The logo shows Elmo and the description is written in an attractive way for parents. On the start screen the narrator tells the child that Elmo feels like looking for noisy things and asks whether it wants to help Elmo. If a child doesn’t find anything in the picture Elmo motivates the child with sentences like „keep looking“ or „try a different place“ to continue the search. After finding an item in the picture that has been shown on the left side of the screen the item moves and makes some noise giving the children direct feedback.
The app attracts neither boys nor girls in a stronger way. So butch and femme user are addressed equally.
Opening the app for the first time there is no introduction on how to use it. But it is actually not needed because the symbols are self-explanatory and every task and headline is read out. Therefore the child always knows what to do and it gets direct feedback. The items which have already been found make a noise and are marked with a green check. Once the child has found all items Elmo appears on the screen saying „alright“. Not only in the scenes but also during the memory game there are feedback noises that make clear if the cards match or not.
Social Media Hintergrund
Within the app there are no means of Social Media.
Commercial Elements Hintergrund
Under the rubric Help in the category Whats New there are presented three new apps of Elmo and the Cookie Monster. When you touch them a window opens up and asks you if you want to open the link in iTunes. Apart from that there are no commercial elements within the app.
Using the app there is nothing inappropriate for preschoolers. The app is offline usable and it doesn’t connect the child with any services on the internet or means of Social Media. The only exception is the commercial of new apps but they are not easily accessible because they are hidden in a subcategory under the rubric Help which is rather not interesting for young children.
Name and logo of the app are clearly related to Elmo and Sesame Street so there is no possibility of confusion. The description of the provider is informative and the given age limit with at least four years seems appropriate with regard to the content of the app. If parents want to contact the provider they can find a link to the website under the rubric Help in the category Credits.
Those children loving Elmo and Sesame Street are probably impressed with this app. Elmo asks them for their help and in each scene there is different music and lots of noisy objects to find. If a child plays a scene over again the objects that it has to find change. So each scene can be played again and again. In addition there are objects to find and collect for the „Super Duper Sticker Book“. When children feel bored because they don’t find anything Elmo motivates and encourages them. Therefore the app can be used several times by children or together with their parents because there is a lot to discover in every different scene.
